How We're Dealing With the Haiti Tragedy  -  21/01/2010

As the leader in the student travel industry, we are very deeply saddened by the tragic earthquake that the Haitains have encountered and the difficulty in their recovery during the aftermath.

The Dominican Republic, the neighboring country to Haiti, has been directly involved in the post earthquake relief efforts and have stated that they will continue to do so, as would any neighboring country in a time of need like this. Fortunately, the Domincan Republic, including its tourism capital Punta Cana, has not been at all effected by the earthquake. All airports, resort facilities, modes of transportation and all tourism related businesses are fully open and functioning at complete capacity.

“The DR experienced no damage from the earthquake and all transportation systems, communication systems, tourism businesses and medical facilities are operating smoothly, making the country available to offer support to the relief effort in any way needed.”- Jan 13, 2010 The Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism . (To read more please see the statements at the bottom of the page).

Breakaway Tours will be coordinating sustainable efforts through both our parent company TUI Travel, PLC and through our high school and college programs where travelers will have the opportunity to donate direct to the Dominican Republic’s relief efforts on location. Further details will be available shortly.
