Surf Conditions

Bali is perhaps the best known island in Indonesia, being a 'dream' destination with names such Padang Padang and Uluwatu with its famous entry cave. Bali gets the full force of southern ocean swells direct from the antarctic with its south-west and south-east coasts being littered with surf spots. May to September are preferred for surf conditions. Our experienced guides will take you to best surf spots on Bali, perfect for all types of surfers, beginners-intermediate.



Shopping

Shopping in Bali is not simply walking into a shop, picking something from a shelf and paying for it. Shopping is an art. In every traditional market and art shop around Bali bargaining is a must.

This traditional way makes shopping in Bali a fun time, where you can feel the warmth of human value in every transaction. Before you begin your shopping tour on this island, please obtain cash because most places do not accept credit cards.

Even if you are not a seasoned negotiator be prepared to enjoy the bargaining process. It is a fun activity and be patient and you will get the 'best (and maybe even local) price'. In some places you can bargain until you get 50% off. Always go in at less than a third of the price (maybe even a quarter) and bargaining and even walk away, until you get the price you want. Then make sure you pay the right money.

How much money should I bring?

The amount of extra spending money needed can vary from person to person. Generally we recommend budgeting for $20 per day, so around $550-$650 for the month; this should cover your meals and drinks during the trip. As for shopping… it depends on what you buy and how much you buy. Almost every second shop is a surf style clothing store, most of which are cheaper and have way more selection than in Canada. There are some knock-off shops, but the quality and designs are not that great.

Generally we recommend bringing enough spending money for about $20 per day.
Some prices to expect while you’re in Bali and the Gili’s:

• Meals in a restaurant: Averages $2 - $5
• Entrance into nightclubs in Kuta: free
• Bottled Water: 50 cents for large 1.5 ltr bottle.
• Taxi’s: cheap!
• Shopping for clothes: very cheap knockoffs! Originals are a bit cheaper than back home, and Bali has all the newest trends. Also lots of Billabong, Roxy, Quicksilver, etc.
• Good shopping for souvenirs, carvings, paintings, etc. - All very cheap.
• Visa upon arrival to enter Bali: $25 US
• Departure tax from Bali: 150,000 Rupia (equal to about $17)
